Amsterdam, the original gay capital of Europe has seen many changes over the past decade. It has undergone a complete transformation. New hotels, refurbished museums and fresh faces on the gay party and bar scene have restored the city to one of the most visited gay destinations with not one but three different gaybourhoods each offering a unique taste of dutch gay life; from fetish lover to hipster, everyone is welcome.
The gay districts of Amsterdam are all within easy walking distance. First there’s the mouthful, Reguliersdwarsstraat, which is more mainstream and can get very busy at the weekend. Close-by you have the Amstel street and Kerkstraat where you will find traditional pubs and a lively gay scene. Finally, Warmoesstraat with its gay cruise bars and fetish shops is in the heart of the red light district and home to some of the longest running bars such as The Eagle!
The Amsterdam party circuit is well served by the Rapido and Fun House Parties with irregular events held during festivals and long weekends. April sees the popular Kings day which is one of the bggest parties in the city. Amsterdam’s Canal Pride takes place during the first week of August and continues to attract more visitors annually. Add in the Bear Weekend, a fetish pride and the famous New Year’s Eve parties and you won’t be short of places to party in the city.
Visit in Summer for long evenings on outdoor terraces, Autumn for walks along the canals, Winter for good beer in a cosy café
